The
following program is offered for academic
credit. Students who enroll for
academic credit will have homework assignments, take exams, and receive grades. Students who achieve a grade of C or better
in a course will receive a certificate of achievement which indicates that it
is the opinion of TLC staff that they have skills necessary for employment in a
work situation using the specified program.
Program Outline: Medical Transcription Specialist. $1,795 ($1,695 if paid in full before
beginning course work) for the complete program includes all course materials. This Program is offered only
for academic credit. It is not
offered as a general course.
Medical
transcriptionists provide an important service to both the physician and
patient by transcribing dictated medical reports that document a patient’s
medical care and condition. Medical
transcriptionists nationwide are more in demand than ever before. Transcription services now range from small,
one-person, home-based businesses to sophisticated high-tech corporations. Local medical transcription services serve
client hospitals throughout the nation.
Some services now employ both “on-site” and home-based
transcriptionists.

Medical
Terminology (60 classroom hours) ($995
includes all course materials)
This course is
a prerequisite for the Medical Transcription
course described below
In addition to classroom activities (4
hours/week for 15 weeks) students will be expected to spend 10-15 hours/week or
more on homework.
This is a comprehensive study of medical terminology as used in the science and
health science fields. The course is
designed to provide the student with a sound knowledge and understanding of the
medical language use by healthcare professionals.

Medical
Transcription (60 classroom hours) ($995
includes all course materials)
In addition to classroom activities (4 hours/week for 15 weeks) students will
be expected to spend 10-15 hours/week or more on homework.
This course will prepare students for medical
transcriptions (at home or in a medical facility) by providing a comprehensive
background in medical transcription.
Students receive hands-on experience transcribing hospital reports,
chart notes, referral letters and other medical documents.
Payment
options: 50% of fees payable at time of
registration. Balance is due in two installments four weeks and eight weeks
after first day of class. A discount of
$25 will be applied if either course is paid in full one week before start
date.
